Where is Rome?
How did Rome get its name?
Here's how, Remus and Romulus myth They were born to Mars and Rhea Sylvia. Numitor, the father of Sylvia was king but, soon enough, he was dethroned by his brother, Amulius. Sylvia was a virgin but she still gave birth to the twins. Usually this kind of thing is punishable by death but Amulius was scared of the wrath of Mars, being a god. So, instead, he imprisoned her and ordered one of his servants to drop the kids into the lake Tiber and let them die that way. And so the plan was laid and went by smoothly except that the twins weren't dead. Romulus and Remus were protected by the God of the Tiber river and later in the morning, they were found by a Lupa or a she wolf. The wolves took care of the twins until they were teenagers. But eventually, they were discovered and cared for by a shepherd and his wife, Faustulus and Acca Larentia. They grew up and killed Amulius and reinstated Numitor. They then decided to rule and fought when they wanted to keep different names for the city. Remus wanted it to be Rem and Romulus wanted it to be Rome. In this quarrel, Romulus killed his twin, Remus and Rome was then called Rome . |

He did not rule for long. Old enemies joined some of his supporters and on March 15, 44 BC, Ceaser was assassinated in the Senate.

augustus
Augustus was adopted by Ceaser. Since Ceaser had won war, he was in need of an heir. So, Augustus was adopted. When his dad died, Augustus was only nineteen but he claimed the throne. He formed an alliance with a powerful general, Mark Antony. Together they fought and in the end Augustus claimed Rome and Antony claimed Egypt. But Antony had fallen under Cleopatra's spell of beauty. Rome feared that Cleopatra wanted the throne for herself and before she and Mark could attack, Augustus struck first. The battle of Actium in 31 BC, destroyed three fourth of the Egyptian fleet and cleopatra and Mark killed themselves. At the age of 32, he became the first emperor and a successful one. pompeii
Pompeii was a city in Rome that disappeared after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD. Pompeii was not a remarkable city but was better known because it's ruins were so well preserved. Pompeii is on a plateau of ancient lava near the by of Naples, less than 1 mile from the foot of Mount Vesuvius. Scholars have not been able to identify Pompeii's original inhabitants. In the 500's B.C., the area came under the influence of Greek colonies along the coast. A mountain people called the Samnites occupied Pompeii in the 400's B.C. Pompeii remained a relatively unimportant village until the 200's B.C., when the town entered a prosperous period of building and expansion. Pompeii became a Roman community in 91 B.C.
